back in the day
we lived in austin.
my bestie lived there too.
she's much more fun and creative than i am.
every year, they hosted a pumpkin carving party.

clay & i decided this would be a super fun tradition to continue in kc.
the first annual kc pumpkin carving party was held in our teeny tiny apartment in 2008.
it was a small, quiet event.
that's code for we had just moved and these were the only friends we had.

the baker's took first place with their leaf carvings.

2009, we slacked off.
no party.
hey, i was pregnant. we had an excuse.

2010, no excuses.
the pumpkin carving continued.
it was a grand affair
and tons of fun.

there was food

there were friends.

there were kids.
lots of them.

because of all those kids,
there was also a bounce house

and of course,
there was carving, painting and glittering.

but in the end
there could only be one winner.
okay, three winners.
but one, first place winner.

the winner,
came as no surprise.
the baker's took the prize for the second year in a row.
pumpkin #2 was the winner
pumpkin #3 took third place {the carvers are selling their house...thus the 'for sale'}

second place went to, what i think was the most creative pumpkins.
a hamburger {yes, that is a real patty, cheese and veggies}
and a duck

we had a grand time.
and are thankful for all of our friends
and their creativity.

you better start planning for next year.
someone's gotta stop those bakers!

so glad the party was such a huge success. Sounds like great fun to me. Glad to see that Miss Leighton seemed to be having fun too. You guys have a great weekend in Austin. Papa and I have had a good week. Niki and the boys came while Clay was in CA. Little Ty is sooooo cute. Love to all.

um, hello little miss creative who has far surpassed me on the title of all things creative! i love the table spread and all the pumpkin party details in your fallish backyard. should we plan our next visit for october 2012? it's been too long since we carved pumpkins together. same thing could be said for making windsocks together.

I loved your table scape! It looked so good and I'd say you definitely made up for not doing it last year [and pregnancy is the most legitimate excuse I've heard of].
