on wednesday i packed up some stuff, loaded up the ipod with some new tunes, set up the gps and headed to omaha, nebraska to visit my cousin ashlee and her kiddos and give clay a few days of uninterrupted studying for the bar. ashlee and her family moved to omaha last november because her husband, jeremy, joined the airforce. the week was very fun and full of lots of entertaining kid moments and adventures.
on wednesday we just hung around the house and ashlee took me on a tour of the base and bellevue (the suburb they live in).
here is jaedyn and brody hanging out in the house. jaedyn loves to play dress up and never stopped asking me if i wanted to play with her. she is the cutest girly girl. brody is three and he called me "my tistin" while i was there. he also inspired the title of this post. when you ask him where he lives, he says "omeeha".
on thursday we went to see the bee movie at the kid viewing. there was free popcorn involved. then we came home and all took a rather long nap followed by a little bellevue shopping.

friday we went to the nationally recognized henry doorly zoo. it was incredible. as a tourist i enjoyed all the crazy animals, especially the porcupine. who knew they were so cute! as a teacher, i loved how it was all set up. with different habitats. my favorite part was the desert dome with real plants and animals in a desert like habitat. there was even a nocturnal swamp area. it was really dark and had lots of beavers, bats, crocodiles, etc. i wish every child could visit a zoo like that and actually experience the different animals in their habitats.
on friday night, ashlee and i left jeremy with the kids and went to one of her friend's house for a girl's night. we ate some yummy enchiladas, played scattergories and phase 10 and just enjoyed a relaxing evening. i learned a lot about military life and i was really impressed with the kind of community they have. they are there for each other, take care of each other, especially when their husbands are deployed, and will do anything for one another. i felt challenged to live that kind of community with the people i live around.
saturday, we got up super early and took a girls trip to the omaha farmer's market. they had lots of good veggies and flowers. i picked up some beautiful zinnias to brighten my house while my husband is gone to jefferson city for the bar exam. anyways, i loved downtown omaha and the farmer's market.

I haven't seen Ashlee in forever! I can't believe she's married with 2 kids! Looks like a fun trip. There's a lot I miss about the military community. People are definitely quick to bond and help each other out.
