tHe wiNdY CiTy

to celebrate the bar exam being over, we took a little weekend jaunt to chicago. it was such a wonderful trip...so wonderful in fact that we fell in love all over again.

clay with the chicago guide book and me with chicago's famous garrett's popcorn.

the guide book came everywhere with us and made an appearance at least 25 times per day. clay did a fabulous job of getting us around the city and where we needed to go.

this popcorn was incredible. i highly recommend the cheddar/caramel mix. although do not try to save any for the next day. it gets too soggy...eat it all the day you buy it.

daY oNe...fun surprises

we ran into my college friend kathleen (who lives in d.c.) and her brand new fiance while shopping on the mag mile. they had gotten engaged that day!

when we walked past the niketown store we noticed a lot of commotion. clay asked around and found out the fc barcelona team was doing a promotion there that day. if you know clay, you know he loves soccer and spain so of course he was pumped. we waited in line for just a bit and then got in to see the team. i stood patiently waiting and watching. i couldn't understand anything going on because it was in spanish...clay loved every second.

the day continued with some shopping and eating delicious giordano pizza.

we waited for an hour and a half at giordano's. by then we were starving and ordered a little too much pizza. i had a bit of a hard time getting the pizza and clay's head in the pic. i opted for the pizza.

daY tWo...a wicked surprise

we happened to see that wicked was performing in chicago while we were there. sat. morning we decided to go and try to get some tickets. when we got to the box office they had some really expensive, bad seats left. as we were trying to decide what to do the guy working there told us there was a drawing next door at borders in 10 minutes for a chance to purchase front row tickets for $25. we thought we might as well try...nothing to lose. well get excited...they drew my name! we bought front and center tickets for $25 each. it was incredible and we both LOVED wicked.

dAy thReE...a little culture

we spent the afternoon at the art institute and millennium park. we saw lots of good impressionist pieces, ate delicious hot dogs and took a lot of pics at the bean. don't look at my face too closely...that was about the 50th attempt at a good picture.

dAy FouR...a u boat and a lot of sitting

today we took a bus ride to the museum of science and industry. the guide book was correct when it said to be prepared for overstimulation. the absolute best part was that the museum has the only german u-boat that was captured during ww2. i loved learning about the plan and how it was captured and moved. the u-boat was so big it kind of takes your breath away when you see it. amazing.

our flight was scheduled to leave chicago at 9:45 pm on monday. we got to the airport pretty early because we decided to eat dinner there. turns out everything ended up being delayed due to tornados and lightening storms. we got home at 3:30 am...we could have driven back to kc from chicago in the time that we waited! it was a long night, but overall the weekend was fabulous. we loved chicago and had a great trip.
